Outcomes

Tangible and measurable social, economic and environmental benefits

From the idea to the final product

During the lifetime of the Remine Water project, a broad range of significant outputs and quantified achievements will be delivered in search of the most effective and efficient way to reach the main goal: to minimise mining wastewater discharges and to contribute to circular economy by recovering valuable substances found within wastewater and reusing most of the discharged water.

Main outputs and achievements

The development of an innovative treatment train for mining industries will enable:

90%

of discharged water to be recovered for water reuse.

95%

decrease in the salinity for water reuse.

The development of a resource recovery treatment train to recover minerals, acids and transition metals from mining industry process streams will enable:

Sulphuric Acid

90%

to be recovered

Copper

70%

to be recovered

Zinc

40%

to be recovered

Salinity

80%

reduction

An 80% reduction in the salinity of the wastewater discharge from the mining industry.

OPEX

50%

reduction

A 50% reduction of total OPEX, compared to conventional thermal brine concentration technologies.

CO2

70%

reduction

A 70% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to conventional thermal evaporation processes.
